Chief executive and leader of the publication, the journalism club, and its staff.

TAV + COMMUNITY

Community writers keep the spirit of the College alive! They focus exclusively on covering the news, events, and happenings at TAV College and the surrounding communities of Cote-Des-Neiges & NDG.

Student prospects: Social Science or ALC students who want to build a strong university application.
SCIENCE
​
Staff writers that focus exclusively on the world of science. This might include articles about new developments in science, innovative technologies, mathematics, or maybe strange facts.
​
Student prospects: Science students who want to build a strong university application.
LIFESTYLE
​
Lifestyle writers write about everything related to the arts and/or culture. This could include anything from movies, music, recipes, restaurant reviews or spotlights, event reviews, etc.
​
Student prospects: Social Science, ALC, or Digital Marketing students who want to build a strong university application or resume.
BUSINESS + TECHNOLOGY
​
Staff writers that focus exclusively on business and/or technology news in the world. This can be anything from stock market trading or financial tips to the latest apps, and what Google is up to.
​
Student prospects: Social Science or Digital Marketing students who want to build a strong university application or resume.
CREATIVE
​
Staff that focuses exclusively on creative additions to the publication. This might be a spot the difference drawing, a crossword puzzle, a poem, a song... Be creative (pun intended).

SPORTS + HEALTH AND FITNESS
​
Staff writers that focus exclusively on sports, health and fitness, and well-being articles.

Student prospects: Any students who want to pursue higher education in sports marketing, sports journalism, or sports media.

​

Tier 2 - Creative Staff
FRONT COVER ARTIST (FCA)
​
The Front Cover tells readers what to expect inside and sets the stage for the publication. The FCA designs the graphic layout, text placement, color palette, and imagery for the front cover of each issue.
​
Is this for me? This position is ideal for anyone who is interested in graphic design, illustration, visual storytelling, or design in general.
ASSISTANT GRAPHIC DESIGNER (AGD)
​
The AGD supports the Creative Director in the visual storytelling, graphic layout, and mood board concept of the issue. They will use content creation software to bring the issue into a cohesive visual theme as well as offer ideas for enhancing the graphic design of the print and digital layouts of the publication.
​
Is this for me? This position is ideal for anyone interested in graphic design as a passion or as a hobby.
PHOTOGRAPHERS
​
The TAV Times photographers capture the spirit of TAV College and its surrounding communities. Photographers are challenged to capture imagery that is engaging, visually appealing, and thought-provoking.

Is this for me? This may appeal to any student who wants to pursue higher education in communications, media, journalism, or photography.
COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATORS
​
Comms coordinators take the articles, content, and imagery that the writers and creative staff have produced and reformat/optimize the content in order to disseminate it throughout The TAV Times' social media and information networks.
​
Is this for me? This position is ideal for anyone who is interested in social media management, digital marketing, SEO / SEM, copywriting, or marketing.

Tier 3 - Administrative Staff
CREATIVE DIRECTOR (CD)
​
Sets the tone, style, and visual aesthetic for each issue. Works alongside the Editor-In-Chief and Assistant Graphic Designer to create enhanced visual storytelling through the cohesive planning of graphic and text elements.
​
Is this for me? This may appeal to any student who wants to pursue higher education in design, project management, art direction, visual arts, or graphic design.
COPY EDITOR (CE)
​
The quality assurance superstar! The Copy Editor plays the important role of proofreading, fact-checking, and editing articles before they're published. This role is vital to the quality and reputation of The TAV Times' content. The CE will read articles and often constructive feedback to writers regarding areas of improvement.
​
Is this for me? This position is ideal for anyone who is interested in a leadership role, English language arts, reading and writing, or teaching.
MANAGING EDITOR (ME)
​
The second in command and fulfills the responsibilities of the Editor-In-Chief in their absence. The ME will provide executive direction to the writing and creative staff, fact-check and proofread articles and content, as well as provide constructive feedback regarding additional work that may need to be done.
​
Is this for me? This may appeal to any student who wants leadership experience and/or proofreading and editing experience.
EDITOR-IN-CHIEF (EIC)
​
The EIC's role is to ensure that all staff members have clear objectives and are meeting these objectives, operations are running smoothly, the quality of the content is being checked, the brand is cohesive throughout all platforms, and contemplates the long-term goals of the publication. The EIC will also work alongside their creative and administrative team to recruit new writers, train new writers, and retain existing writers.
