Section 1: The Terms of Agreement
This contract stipulates the rules and regulations concerning all members of the TAV College Journalism Club. Should any of the rules outlined in this contract be broken, the offender will be immediately removed from the club, forbidden from participating in any other extracurricular activities at the College, and may receive further disciplinary actions by the College administration.
All TAV College policies apply to the TAV Times office space and practices. Any serious offenses, or offenses outlined in this code of conduct, can result in suspension or expulsion from the College. For more information, see TAV College Policies.
Section 2: The Rules Pertaining to the TAV Times Office Space
- All TAV College policies also apply to this office space (e.g., no smoking, alcohol, sexual violence, discrimination, bullying). See the TAV College Code of Conduct for more information.
- You may decorate and customize the space; however, all furnishings, items, and technology already present are property of TAV College. Any lost, stolen, or damaged property will be subject to Article 9 – Property, in the Code of Conduct.
- Report any damaged property in the TAV Times office immediately to the editor-in-chief.
- Technological devices in the TAV Times office may be monitored or reviewed by the College for security purposes.
- You may play music at a respectable volume. Select music respectfully, keeping peers’ cultural beliefs in mind.
- Eating and drinking are allowed, but strictly forbidden near technological devices.
- Non-member students are not permitted in the office without authorization. Any member caught granting access will be permanently removed from the club.
- No sleeping overnight. The office must not be occupied past 12:00 AM without administrative authorization.
- Office appliances are for TAV Times members only.
- You must bring your own dishes, but no waste is to be left overnight. Dispose of all food and drinks before leaving daily.
- The office door may be closed but not locked. You must open the door to anyone who knocks.
- Throwing objects or leaning out of office windows is strictly forbidden.
- Office keys are the responsibility of club members. Lost keys must be replaced for $5. A second loss results in removal from the club.
- Do not paint, draw, or damage any walls or items in the office.
- All members must maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety. The last person leaving must complete the “Exiting Checklist.” Failure to comply will result in the permanent closure of the office.
- Respect the “Reserved Office Hours” schedule. Do not enter during another member’s reserved time without permission.
- The iMac in the office may only be used by the copy editor, editor-in-chief, communications director, or photographer.
Section 3: The Rules Pertaining to Individuals of the Club
- In accordance with the College Policy Against Sexual Violence, sexual activities, harmful touching, or sexual violence are strictly forbidden.
- In accordance with the Anti-Bullying and Anti-Violence Policy, bullying or violence of any kind is prohibited.
- The office must be a safe, discrimination-free space.
- Respect the religious and cultural values of others.
- Respect others’ health concerns (e.g., food allergies).
- Respect others’ personal property. Do not access someone else’s device or account. The office iMac is for authorized users only (editor-in-chief, copy editor, photographer, communications coordinator).
Section 4: The Rules Pertaining to Content Produced by Club Members
- Submitted content must be free of offensive wording, discrimination, propaganda, or promotion of violence or self-harm.
- The publication may not produce content containing sexual acts, violence, or discrimination against any socio-cultural group.
- Writers may publish opinions, provided they follow the rules in Section 4.1 and 4.2.
- All content must be original and copyright-free. Any paraphrased, quoted, or sampled material must be properly cited (MLA, APA, or Chicago) at the bottom of the article or media.
